Michael Abramson kicked a 22-yard field goal with 53 seconds left to give Macalester a 30-27 victory over Illinois College for the Midwest Conference championship Saturday afternoon in Jacksonville, Ill.

The victory gave Macalester (9-1) an outright football title for the first time since 1925, and earned an automatic berth in the NCAA Division III tournament for the Scots. Macalester shared the 1947 MIAC title with St. Thomas.

Abramson's field goal capped Macalester's second rally of the game. The Scots trailed 14-0 before scoring three touchdowns for a 20-14 lead, and also tallied the last 10 points of the game.

Trailing 27-20, Macalester tied the score on Samson Bialostok's third touchdown pass of the afternoon, a 70-yarder to Tre Nowaczynski. Bialostok completed 19 of 31 passes for 311 yards, with Victor Bordo catching two of the touchdown passes and Ben Hillmann gaining 155 yards on 12 catches.

Zandy Stowell rushed for 167 yards on 28 carries for the Scots, who joined the Midwest as a football-only member after 12 years of playing as an independent.
