A woman remained in critical condition Sunday after someone opened fire on the car she was driving in north Minneapolis on Saturday night. A male passenger was killed.
Male victim in Minneapolis car shooting identified
The Hennepin County Medical Examiner's office on Sunday identified the male victim as Frank Sam Early, 37, of Minneapolis.
Police were called to the intersection of Plymouth and Washington avenues at 6:20 p.m. on a report of a car accident. Upon arrival, they found that the people inside the car had been shot, Sgt. John Sullivan said. Bullet casings were recovered near the intersection, he said.
The car appeared to have been going east on Plymouth Avenue when it crossed the opposite lane of traffic and hit a parked vehicle in a business parking lot, Sullivan said.
The woman, who has not been identified, underwent surgery late Saturday at Hennepin County Medical Center. She has a gunshot wound to the head, Sullivan said.
No suspects have been arrested.
About two weeks ago, a shooting occurred in north Minneapolis with a victim inside of a car, and it, too, was first reported as a traffic accident rather than a homicide.
In that case, 911 callers told police of hearing gunshots and seeing a car crash at 43rd and Girard Avenues N.
That victim, Steven E. Meyer, 36, of Eden Prairie, died of a gunshot wound to the abdomen, according to the Hennepin County medical examiner's office. His death is being investigated as a homicide.
