A 78-year-old man was struck and killed by a motorist in St. Paul on Wednesday afternoon while walking near the intersection of Arlington Avenue and Matilda Street, police said.
Man, 78, dies after being struck in St. Paul crosswalk
Ker Par of St. Paul, was hit as he navigated a crosswalk about 2:30 p.m. in a residential area next to the grounds of Washington Technology Magnet School.
He was taken to Regions Hospital, where he died from his injuries.
The driver immediately stopped and is cooperating with authorities, said Mike Ernster, speaking for the St. Paul police.
There are no streetlights at the intersection, but pedestrians have the right of way in the marked crossing lane. Ernster said the driver, who has not been arrested, was traveling at low speed when he failed to yield to the man. Alcohol and drugs do not appear to be a factor, he said.
It remains unclear whether the driver might have been distracted.
