Man dies after being struck by minivan in St. Paul

The driver was cooperating with the investigation, police said.

A man was killed Friday night when hit by a minivan while walking in an East Side neighborhood of St. Paul, police said.

The pedestrian was struck about 6:30 p.m. near the intersection of Van Dyke Street and E. Mechanic Avenue, according to a news release. Fire Department medics pronounced him man dead at the scene. His identity was not released Friday night.

According to the preliminary investigation, a Kia Sedona was westbound on Mechanic Avenue before turning south onto Van Dyke Street. Police believe the man was walking in the middle of Van Dyke when he was struck, police Sgt. Mike Ernster said.

The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators, police said. He was not arrested, and police do not believe he was impaired, Ernster said.
