Two dead in weekend motorcycle crashes

The crashes occurred in Anoka and Freeborn counties on a traditionally big motorcycling weekend.

Two motorcyclists have died in crashes early this long Memorial Day weekend, authorities said.

One man was killed about 9:30 a.m. Saturday when he collided with a U-Haul truck as its driver attempted a U-turn in the 15400 block of St. Francis Blvd NW. in the Anoka County suburb of Ramsey, the county Sheriff's Office said. Both were northbound at the time.

The motorcyclist, who was not wearing a helmet, was declared dead at the scene. The woman driving the truck was not hurt.

The crash was under investigation by the Sheriff's Office, Ramsey Police Department, Minnesota State Patrol and Midwest Medical Examiner's Office.

In the second fatal crash, a 63-year-old Lakeville man died just before noon Sunday when he lost control of his 2007 Harley-Davidson and struck the center barricade of southbound Interstate 35 in Freeman Township between Albert Lea and the Iowa state line, the State Patrol said.

Glenview Fire Department and Mayo Ambulance responded to the crash, but the man was declared dead at the scene. His name was not released Sunday.

As an eviction crisis has seemed increasingly likely this summer, everyone in the housing market has made the same plea to Washington: Send money — lots of it — that would keep renters in their homes and landlords afloat.
