Man killed in south Minneapolis shooting

A man shot in south Minneapolis on Monday night died about an hour later at Hennepin County Medical Center.

Police found Juan Francisco Reyes Rosario, 31, of Richfield, on a sidewalk on 43rd Street E. between 4th and 5th Avenues S. after responding about 6:30 p.m. to shots being fired.

Witnesses reported that the shots were fired from a vehicle that fled the scene near Eddy's Barber Shop at 4301 4th Av. S. Investigators recovered multiple bullet casings.

Police Lt. Danny May, acting 3rd Precinct Commander, said the shooting doesn't appear to be random.

"Anytime there are shots fired outside, it's obviously a cause for concern. But it appears this victim was targeted," May said.

Witnesses to the shooting were being interviewed Monday night, he said. No arrests had been made.

A neighbor near the barber shop said her neighborhood is pretty typical for an urban neighborhood. "Some weekends it's louder than others," said Hilary Smith, who has lived near 5th Avenue S. and E. 43rd Street for the past 14 years. "But to have a shooting, especially at the side of my house, is unusual."

But, she said, it's difficult to react to the shooting until she knows more details.

"It makes me nervous," Smith said. "It's an uncomfortable feeling."
