A man was shot dead early Saturday outside the Amazon Fulfillment Center in Lakeville, according to police.

The man was identified Sunday as Ahmed Ibrahim Cariif, 22, of Faribault, according to a news release from the Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office. He died of a gunshot wound to the chest, and the medical examiner listed the manner of death homicide.

Authorities said that following reports of an altercation, police arrived at the parking lot of the warehouse, at 9800 217th St. W., just after 4 a.m. They found Cariif with a suspected gunshot wound.

Cariif died at the scene, police reported, and a 24-year-old man was arrested.

“Investigators are working to determine their relationship to each other, what led up to the altercation and their specific connection to the business,” the Lakeville Police Department said in the release. “There is no known threat to the public related to this incident.”

The warehouse parking lot was the site of another fatal shooting early in 2023. Donte R. McCray is serving a 47-year prison term for murdering Kyla O’Neal, 33, who was pregnant with their son. The child died nine days later.
