Local poets to give readings at 3 locations In a first for the city, a poetry showcase featuring local poets will take place Friday night in three downtown venues.

The event, produced by Arcola Mills and supported by the Mardag Foundation, will feature readings by local writers Juli Hagstrom, Laurel Anderson, John Caddy, Mary Fernstrum, Laurie Allman, Don Mitchell and others.

Times and locations are listed below:

• 6 to 7 p.m. at Marine General Store

• 7 to 8 p.m. at Marine Public Library

• 8 to 9 p.m. at Roberta's Coffee Shop

BAYPORT

Toys for Tots gifts can be dropped off at 6 sites The city has set up drop-off sites for those who want to donate a gift for the Toys for Tots program. The toys will benefit needy children in the area. To participate, drop off a new, unwrapped toy at one of the following locations from now through Dec. 19:

• Bayport City Hall

• Bayport Library

• Croixdale Senior Housing Community

• Holiday Gas Station

• American Legion

• First State Bank and Trust

City Council has vacancy The city is accepting applications for a temporary appointment to the City Council. The term of service would be either until Dec. 31, 2010, or when current council Member Bo Bogotty can return to his duties.
