Tracking Mark Coyle through the years:

1987

Graduates from Waterloo Columbus High (Iowa) after helping the football team win a state championship as a wide receiver.

1987-1992

Coyle plays football at Drake and earns his bachelor's degree in English in 1991 and master's degree in teaching in 1992.

1993-1997

Attends Florida State and earns a master's degree in athletic administration. His first postgraduate job is at the University of Miami.

1997-2001

Coyle is named vice president of collegiate sports at Host Communications, a college sports marketing service that was later acquired by IMG in 2007.

2001-2005

At the University of Minnesota, Coyle rose to the associate athletic director for external relations, holding responsibility for managing the marketing and sales unit, athletic communications, the ticket office and licensing.

2005-2011

As deputy director of athletics at Kentucky, he worked closely with one of the highest-profile programs in all of college sports: Wildcats men's basketball.

2011-2015

He becomes AD at Boise State and hits a football high point with the Broncos' 38-30 Fiesta Bowl victory over Arizona in 2014. He hired football coach Bryan Harsin when Chris Petersen left for the University of Washington.

June 19, 2015

Announced as Syracuse University's athletic director, replacing Daryl Gross after Gross held the position for over a decade.

May 11, 2016

Announced as Minnesota athletic director.
