A few of Monday's events around the region.
Minneapolis:
7 a.m., Armory, 500 S. 6th St. Annual MLK Holiday Breakfast. Proceeds will benefit the Minneapolis chapter of UNCF. Actor David Oyelowo ("Selma") will speak and Sounds of Blackness will perform. This sold-out event will be broadcast at 8 a.m. on Twin Cities Public Television and streamed online, as well as broadcast live at many colleges and churches in the state.
11 a.m.-2 p.m., Powderhorn Recreation Center, 3400 15th Av. S. Community celebration featuring local performers, artists and a community meal. Food donations will benefit the Aliveness Project and Beacon Interfaith Housing Collaborative.
3-4 p.m., Central Gym, 3416 4th Av. S. Celebration featuring music, dance, a speaker and food. Free and open to the public.
6:30-7:30 p.m., Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Recreation Center, 4055 Nicollet Av. S. Celebration featuring speaker Toki Wright and entertainment by Sta Fruit. Free and open to the public.
7-10 p.m., Innovation Artist Laboratories, 609 S. 10th St. A conversation about Afrocentric art in the Twin Cities led by Ta-coumba Aiken. Free.
St. Anthony
9 a.m., Nativity Lutheran Church, 3312 Silver Lake Road NE. Citizens host second annual "Our Community, Our Time, An MLK Day Celebration," a collaboration by Nativity Lutheran Church, Abu-Huraira Islamic Center, St. Anthony Village High School's Dare 2 Be Real Club and Thrivent Financial Services.
