MEN'S HIGHLIGHTS

Kansas holds off Michigan BIG TEN

• NO. 1 KANSAS 75, MICHIGAN 64: Marcus Morris had 23 points and 10 rebounds, and Sherron Collins scored 19 to help the Jayhawks pulled out a grinding victory at home over the Wolverines on Saturday.

"I'm not overly thrilled. I'm glad we won," Kansas coach Bill Self said. "We did some things well, but we did some things really poorly as well."

Kansas (10-0) jumped out to a 21-point lead in the first half, but Michigan (5-5) clawed its way back. Still, the Wolverines only shot 5-for-28 from three-point range and fell to 1-21 all-time vs. No. 1 teams.

• NO. 4 PURDUE 69, BALL STATE 49: Robbie Hummel had 19 points and nine rebounds to help the Boilermakers (10-0) beat the Cardinals (3-5) in the Wooden Tradition in Indianapolis.

• NO. 12 MICHIGAN STATE 80, IPFW 58: After getting outhustled for most of the first half, the host Spartans (9-2) had enough to put away the Mastadons (3-6) in a final tuneup before Tuesday's visit to No. 2 Texas.

• NO. 18 OHIO STATE 60, DELAWARE STATE 44: William Buford had 18 points to lead the Buckeyes (9-2) to a sluggish victory over the visiting Hornets (4-5).

• IOWA 71, DRAKE 67: Matt Gatens scored 18 points, Anthony Tucker had 17 and the Hawkeyes (4-7) avoided being swept by their three in-state rivals for the first time, holding off the Bulldogs (5-6) in Iowa City.

• GEORGIA 70, ILLINOIS 67: Trey Thompkins hit four free throws in the final 22.2 seconds to help the host Bulldogs (5-4) against the Illini (8-3), who took a one-point lead with 35.6 seconds left.

• INDIANA 81, N.C. CENTRAL 58: Maurice Creek scored 29 points for the host Hoosiers (5-5).

• PENN STATE 104, GARDNER-WEBB 57: Talor Battle had 21 points for the host Nittany Lions (7-4).

NATION

• NO. 21 BUTLER 69, XAVIER 68: Gordon Hayward emerged from a scramble by putting in a layup that gave the Bulldogs (8-3) a victory over the Musketeers (6-4) in Indianapolis. In a bizarre ending, officials ruled the clock had stopped inadvertently for 1.3 seconds during Butler's final possession. During the review, which lasted more than five minutes, they used a stopwatch to determine how much time to run off. They counted Hayward's basket but ran the remaining 1.2 seconds off, taking away Xavier's last chance.

• SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA 77, NO. 8 TENNESSEE 55: Alex Stepheson had 19 points and 15 rebounds in Los Angeles, and the Trojans (5-4) handed the Volunteers (8-2) their worst loss under coach Bruce Pearl. Mike Gerrity had had 12 points and 10 assists in his USC debut after transferring from Charlotte.

• NO. 7 DUKE 76, NO. 15 GONZAGA 41: Nolan Smith had 24 points at New York's Madison Square Garden, Jon Scheyer added 20 points and eight assists and the Blue Devils (9-1) held the Bulldogs (8-3) to their lowest point total in 25 years.

• OLD DOMINION 61, NO. 11 GEORGETOWN 57: The Monarchs (7-4) spoiled Georgetown's annual game at 2,400-seat McDonough Arena in Washington, D.C., capitalizing on 18 turnovers and leading all the way vs. the Hoyas (8-1).

• RICHMOND 56, NO. 13 FLORIDA 53: Kevin Anderson hit four free throws in the final 5.4 seconds, and the Spiders (8-3) upset the Gators (8-2) in Sunrise, Fla.

• WICHITA STATE 85, NO. 16 TEXAS TECH 83: Clevin Hannah scored 24 points, J.T. Durley had 20 and the host Shockers (10-1) beat the Red Raiders (9-1).

• NO. 3 KENTUCKY 90, AUSTIN PEAY 69: The host Wildcats (11-0) moved within one victory of becoming the first college basketball program to reach 2,000.

• NO. 6 WEST VIRGINIA 80, CLEVELAND STATE 78: Da'Sean Butler's layup with 1.2 seconds left sent the Mountaineers (8-0) over the host Vikings (4-8).

AREA

• REGIS 73, CONCORDIA (ST. PAUL) 59: Matt Rosinski had 26 points as the Rangers (5-4) beat the host Golden Bears (5-5), who got 27 points from Mike Cunningham.

WOMEN'S HIGHLIGHTS

Cardinal tops Lady Vols NATION

• NO. 2 STANFORD 67, NO. 3 TENNESSEE 52: Kayla Pedersen had 16 points and eight rebounds and the host Cardinal (9-0) beat the Lady Vols (9-1) in a matchup of unbeaten national powerhouses.

"When you play Tennessee, I think it's a win whether it's a big 'W' or a little 'w,' " Stanford coach Tara VanDerveer said. "They help you get better."

Jayne Appel added 10 points, 14 boards, three assists and three blocks for the Cardinal, which plays No. 1 Connecticut on Wednesday.

Angie Bjorklund scored 15 points for the Lady Vols, who managed only four assists.

BIG TEN

• ILLINOIS 64, OAKLAND 50: Former Bloomington Kennedy standout Jenna Smith had 24 points and 11 rebounds for the 40th double-double of her career, tying the career record for the host Illini (8-2).

• NO. 8 OHIO STATE 78, ALABAMA A&M 54: Samantha Prahalis had 16 points and 12 assists and the host Buckeyes (12-1) pulled away vs. the Bulldogs (4-4).

• NO. 16 MICHIGAN STATE 69, WASHINGTON 52: The Spartans (8-3) went on an early 17-0 run against the turnover-plagued Huskies (4-5).

• CLEVELAND STATE 77, INDIANA 75 (OT): Shalonda Winton made a tiebreaking layup with 25 seconds left in OT, and the host Vikings (4-5) beat the Hoosiers (7-4).

• MICHIGAN 65, DETROIT 51: The Wolverines (9-2) scored 40 second-half points against the Titans (1-8) in winning their fifth in a row, all on the road.

AREA

• BEMIDJI STATE 80, MSU MANKATO 72: Jessie Althoff had 18 points to lead the host Beavers (8-3) over the Mavericks (8-2), a nonconference game even though the two are NSIC rivals.
