MIAC basketball semifinals: Augsburg women move on; men stunned by Macalester

The MIAC men's and women's basketball championship games are set following Friday night's games.

MIAC semifinals

Women

Augsburg 75, Hamline 72: Anja Smith had a tiebreaking three-point play with seven seconds left, and the host and top-seeded Auggies (21-5) completed a comeback from 13 points down to beat the Pipers (19-7). Smith scored 21 points off the bench for Augsburg, which outscored Hamline 28-17 in the fourth quarter. Lydia Lecher scored 24 points for Hamline.

Gustavus Adolphus 74, Bethel 40: Anna Sanders scored 17 points, Emma Kniefel added 16 and the host and second-seeded Gusties (21-4) routed the third-seeded Royals (19-8). Gustavus visits Augsburg on Sunday for the conference tournament championship.

Men

Macalester 76, Augsburg 74: Caleb Williams scored 22 points and the sixth-seeded Scots (15-12) came back from 13 points down in the second half to stun the second-seeded and host Auggies (17-7), who defeated Macalester by 37 points in January.

St. John's 76, St. Olaf 57: All five starters scored in double figures for the host Johnnies (22-4) against the Oles (16-11). St. John's plays host to Macalester in Sunday's title game.
