MIAC football roundup: Wartburg beats Bethel

Wartburg (Iowa) is enjoying life against the MIAC.

The sixth-ranked Knights (2-0) won their second consecutive matchup with an MIAC foe Saturday, beating No. 19 Bethel 24-14 in St. Paul. They also beat Bethel 31-14 a year ago.

Michael Bohlke kicked a 31-yard field goal with 4 minutes, 38 seconds left in the third quarter, breaking a 14-all tie.

Bethel evened it up at 14 on Andrew Dzurik's 9-yard TD pass to Bryce Marquardt earlier in the third quarter.

Brandon Domeyer put the game out of reach, scoring on a 16-yard run with 1:49 left. He opened the scoring with a 34-yard run.

Wartburg opened the season with a 35-27 victory over Augsburg.

Augsburg 54, Concordia (Wis.) 21: Tyrell Martin ran for three TDs as the Auggies (1-1) scored six times on the ground in beating the Falcons (0-2). Quarterback Ayrton Scott completed 17 of 25 passes for 255 yards and two TDs while rushing for a game-high 111 yards on 16 carries and one score.

St. John's 56, Buena Vista (Iowa) 7: Nick Martin completed all nine of his passes for 142 yards and three TDs and also ran for a score as the No. 8-rated Johnnies (2-0) blitzed the Beavers (0-2). St. John's scored on its first three possessions after Carter Hanson opened the scoring when he picked up a fumbled snap on a punt and returned it 24 yards for a TD.

St. Thomas 51, Wisconsin-LaCrosse 7: The Tommies' (2-0) defense recorded nine sacks and limited LaCrosse to 116 yards of offense in the blowout. Jordan Roberts rushed for three TDs as No. 12-rated St. Thomas accumulated 654 yards of offense.

Gustavus 49, Lake Forest (Ill.) 0: Mitch Hendricks completed 28 of 35 passes for 353 yards and five TDs and also added a rushing touchdown in the Gusties' (2-0) rout.

Hamline 27, Macalester 10: Kyle Johnson threw three TD passes, two to Nick Kampa, as the Pipers (2-0) knocked off the Scots (0-2).

Concordia (Moorhead) 41, Wisconsin-Eau Claire 7: Alex Grove passed for two TDs and Jason Montonye ran for two scores as the Cobbers (2-0) crushed the Blugolds (0-2).

Knox (Ill.) 23, Carleton 20: The Prairie Fire (1-1) scored two TDs in a 90-second span in the final 3 minutes, 32 seconds to overcome a 20-10 deficit and beat the Knights (1-1). Quarterback Matt McCaffrey scored the winning TD on a 25-yard run with 2 minutes, 2 seconds remaining.

Luther 34, St. Olaf 16: The Norse (1-1) rolled up 459 yards on the ground, 173 on 17 attempts with two TDs by fullback Christian Moore, in topping the Oles (1-1).
