Minneapolis school bus driver accused of sex crime

September 28, 2011 at 1:55AM

A Minneapolis school bus driver has been charged with sexually assaulting a 5-year-old girl in late June, according to documents filed in Hennepin County District Court.

DeWayne Day, 35, of Minneapolis, is charged with one count of first-degree criminal sexual conduct. According to the complaint, the girl's guardian became concerned June 30 when she was not dropped off by her school bus at her regular time. After calls to her school, the girl was dropped off at her home about 45 minutes later.

The girl eventually told her guardian what had happened. A medical examination was consistent with her story, the complaint said.

Day agreed to a polygraph test, which showed deception, but he continued to deny touching the girl, the complaint said. He is being held in the Hennepin County jail.
