Minneapolis teen competes in national film competition

Morgan Wilcock is among 15 finalists in contest

Morgan Wilcock has been making short films since she was 10. The hard work has paid off. The Minneapolis high school student is among 15 finalists for the 2011 Project VoiceScape Audience Award, sponsored by Adobe Youth Services, PBS and the documentary series POV. The project hopes to inspire aspiring young filmmakers. Audiences can view and vote for their favorites at http://www.pbs.org/pov/voicescape/

Wilcock's film is "This Gay and Age" and looks expectations surrounding teen gays and lesbians due to stereotypes and media influences. Finalists were chosen from among 250 submissions. All finalists receive a $2,000 grant and continued mentoring. Winners will be announced during a private reception Oct. 6 in Washington DC hosted by Gwen Ifill.
