Minnesota's best young hockey players in hunt for coveted roster spots

Several of Minnesota's top young hockey players are sure to land spots tonight when the roster for the U.S. National junior hockey team is announced tonight.

The team will compete in the world's top junior hockey event -- the International Ice Hockey Federation's world junior championship in the Czech Republic, Dec. 26-Jan. 5.

The selections will be announced live on the Versus cable network.

In the running are six Minnesota Gophers: forwards Kyle Okposo, Ryan Flynn, Patrick White and Mike Carman; and defensemen Cade Fairchild, and David Fischer. All are native Minnesotans.

Others from Minnesota competing for roster spots: goaltender Kent Patterson, defensemen Jamie McBain, Ryan McDonagh and Trent Palm, and forwards Jordan Schroeder and Peter Mueller.
