U beats No. 7 TCU
The Gophers baseball team upset No. 9 Texas Christian 6-3 in Fort Worth, Texas.
The heart of the batting order did most of the damage for Minnesota. No. 4 and 5 hitters Toby Hanson and Micah Coffey were both 3-for-4 and No. 6 hitter Cole McDevitt was 2-for-2 with two RBI.
Starter Reggie Meyer pitched 6⅔ innings for the Gophers (13-7), giving up three runs on eight hits. Brett Schulze got the win by getting one out. Freshman Max Meyer pitched two scoreless innings for his fifth save.
Lizak still going
Gophers 125-pound wrestler Ethan Lizak won four matches on Friday in the NCAA Championships in Cleveland to assure himself of at least a sixth-place finish. He was the national runner-up a year ago but lost in the second round this year on the first day.
Lizak, a junior from Schnecksville, Pa., got a five-point decision, a major decision, a technical fall and a pin in his next four matches.
