Minnesota Scene: St. Thomas center Kaitlin Langer named Division III basketball player of the year

St. Thomas senior center Kaitlin Langer was named Division III Women's Basketball Player of the Year by D3hoops.com.

Langer led the Tommies to a 31-1 record and an appearance in the national semifinals, where they fell 60-57 to Tufts. Langer averaged 19.3 points and 8.8 rebounds, while scoring in double figures in all 32 games. She made 201 free throws, converting 80 percent, and scored 617 points with 282 rebounds this season.

• The Gophers women's golf team finished in eighth place among 12 teams in the Notre Dame Clover Cup in Mesa, Ariz. Minnesota had a total of 24-over-par 888. Arizona State, with four of the top six finishers, won with a 26-under total. The Gophers' top finisher was Sabrine Garrison, who tied for 16th at 3-over 219 after a 70 on Sunday.

• The Gophers men's golf team is in 13th place after the first of three days of the Valspar Collegiate in Palm City, Fla. Minnesota's total of 20-over 304 trails leader Texas A&M by 16 strokes. Minnesota's Runar Arnorsson is tied for fourth at 1-under 70. Riley Johnson is tied for 11th at 72.

• The Gophers women's tennis team lost 7-0 to No. 2 Ohio State at the Baseline Tennis Center. The Buckeyes (16-2, 2-0 Big Ten) did not lose a set in dropping Minnesota to 9-6 and 1-2 in the conference.
