More Rare, Wintry Weather in the South

A rare, record-breaking snowstorm swept through Texas into the Southeast onFriday, and a bit of snow will stick around in the Southeast this morning asthe storm presses northward up the Eastern Seaboard.After dropping as much as 4 inches of snow in parts of eastern Texas, the snowspread across central Mississippi and Alabama into northern Georgia late onFriday. A mix of snow and sleet fell as far south as Baton Rouge and NewOrleans, La.

The snow will taper off in northern Alabama and northern Georgia as the dayprogresses. However, 1 to 3 inches of snow could fall over this area. Up to 10inches of snow can be expected in the southern Appalachians as the system headsnorthward away from the Southeast.
