Police: 15-year-old SUV driver hits and kills motorcyclist at Brooklyn Park intersection
The motorcyclist had the right of way, police said.
The wreck occurred about 8:50 p.m. Wednesday at the intersection of West Broadway and County Road 81, according to police.
Officers arrived to find the 59-year-old motorcyclist from Minneapolis dead at the scene, police said.
The identities of the motorcyclist and the SUV driver have yet to be released.
The motorcyclist was traveling north on County Road 81 and had a "solid green light" as he entered the intersection with West Broadway, Police Inspector Elliot Faust said. The SUV driver was heading south on County Road 81 and had a flashing yellow signal while attempting to turn left onto West Broadway, Faust said.
"The SUV turned into the motorcycle, causing the crash," he said.
As required by state law, a licensed driver of proper age was sitting in the front passenger seat of the SUV next to the 15-year-old, who had a learner's permit, Faust said.
The pilot was the only person inside the plane, and was not injured in the emergency landing, according to the State Patrol.
