Mt. Hood Searchers Face Storm Threat

December 14, 2009 at 8:25PM

Search crews for the two remaining Mount Hood hikers that went missing lastFriday will likely run into weather problems if the search continues into thisevening.A storm with heavy winds and precipitation will move into the area around 6-7p.m. local time.

Wind speeds will reach 40 mph at sea level, and those speeds are likely toincrease with elevation.

The snow line for this storm will be 3-4,000 feet, so any search efforts abovethat boundary will be difficult.

Three hikers went up the dormant volcano Friday and have not been seen since.

The body of one of the hikers was found Saturday. It is unknown how long searchefforts will continue.
