No life jacket on, Twin Cities man falls from boat on Wis. lake and dies

August 22, 2011 at 9:44PM

A Twin Cities man died after he stood up in a small boat on a western Wisconsin lake, sending himself and another person overboard, authorities said Monday.

Timothy F. Anderson, 42, of Inver Grove Heights, and a female in the boat tumbled into Dilly Lake early Saturday evening, according to the Washburn County Sheriff's Office.

A husband and wife in a pontoon boat pulled the two out of the water as they attempted to swim to safety and brought them to shore, the Sheriff's Office said.

Anderson later died at a hospital in Spooner. The female, whose identity was not released, survived. Details about her condition were not available.

"Apparently, life jackets were present, but neither was used," the Sheriff's Office said in a statement.

State law requires one life jacket for each person on a boat, but they are only required to be worn by those under age 13.
