North Dakota State gets No. 1 seed in FCS playoffs; South Dakota State is No. 5

Undefeated defending national champion North Dakota State is the No. 1 overall seed for the Football Championship Subdivision playoff field announced Sunday.

The Bison (11-0) will host a second-round playoff game Dec. 1 against the winner of Saturday's first-round game featuring Incarnate Word at Montana State.

NDSU is the automatic qualifier from the Missouri Valley Football Conference and, as the No. 1 seed, will have home-field advantage through the semifinal round. The Bison are 28-2 in the FCS playoffs, with six national championships in eight previous appearances.

Weber State (9-2), Eastern Washington (9-2) and Kennesaw State (10-1) follow NDSU as the top four seeds.

South Dakota State (8-2) is seeded fifth and also will host a second-round game Dec. 1 against the winner of Saturday's Duquesne-Towson matchup.

The Jackrabbits are making their seventh consecutive appearance in the 24-team FCS playoffs and is a top-eight seed for the third year in a row.
