City Recycling Day this Saturday The city is holding its Spring Recycling Day on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Andover Public Works building, 1785 Crosstown Blvd. NW.
Residents can drop off a variety of items including household goods and clothing, batteries, scrap metal, and bicycles in any condition. Some items, including electronics, tires and appliances, have dropoff fees. Document shredding will be available from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The Andover Lions will be collecting used eyeglasses, and the Anoka County Community Action Program will accept furniture in good, clean condition. No household hazardous waste will be accepted.

Info fair for people with limited English Anoka County's Resource Fair for People With Limited English will be held Tuesday, from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., at the Blaine Human Serves Center, 1201 89th Av. NE., Blaine.
The service provides information about child care, community resources, health and immunization, job training, foreclosure prevention and the law. For more information, call 763-422-7110.
BLAINE
Aviation Weekend set for May 16-17 The annual Blaine Aviation Weekend, May 16 and 17, will feature a pancake breakfast and lunch, classic aircraft and helicopter and open cockpit plane rides.
The event is sponsored by EAA Chapter 237 at the Anoka County-Blaine Airport, 8891 Airport Road, in Blaine.
NORTH METRO AREA
Drop off old junk and get mulch, wood chips A junk dropoff day will be held Saturday at Brooklyn Park's maintenance building at 8300 Noble Av. N.
Nominal fees will be charged at the event, held from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. It is open to city residents and those in Brooklyn Center, Crystal and New Hope. Accepted items include appliances, used oil, batteries, tires and scrap metal.
Electronic items are recycled for free. You can also pick up free wood chips and mulch across the street in Central Park. The Vietnam Veterans of America will be on hand to accepted donations of usable household goods.

Comic headlines leadership luncheon The co-owner of Brave New Workshop Comedy Theatre is the guest speaker at Northwest Youth & Family Services's 2009 leadership luncheon.
"Serving Your Community at the Speed of Laughter," is the title of the luncheon, which will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesday, May 6, at the Midland Hills Country Club in Roseville.
The event, featuring John Sweeney, Brave New Workshop's co-owner, is a fundraiser for youth and families served by Northwest Youth & Family Services. The nonprofit social service agency serves more than 3,000 people annually from all over the northern suburbs.

HENNEPIN COUNTY
North Minneapolis clinic receives funding The Hennepin County Board accepted $3.25 million in U.S. Department of Health and Human Services funding for NorthPoint Health & Wellness Center in north Minneapolis. The funding will be used to provide health care services to low-income people. The board also accepted $339,007 in federal stimulus grant money that will be used to add two medical assistants, a health care registration clerk and nurse practitioners at NorthPoint. The funding covers a two-year period.
In other action last week, the board approved a $397,833 contract with HNTB Corp.for preliminary and detail design of the Lyndale Avenue replacement bridge crossing Minnehaha Creek in south Minneapolis. HNTB will design the bridge and approaching roadways.
MOUNDS VIEW
Town hall meeting set for Saturday The city of Mounds View's fifth annual town meeting will be held from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday at the Mounds View Community Center.
Residents are invited to the annual gathering, which will feature a 10 a.m. presentation by the mayor and city administrator, as well as historical displays and kids' activities.
The Community Center is located at 5394 Edgewood Drive.
SHOREVIEW
Run and Romp for dogs and their owners The 10th annual Run and Romp for dogs and their human owners will take place Saturday morning in Shoreview.
The event, organized by the Arden Hills/Shoreview Rotary Club, features a 7.5K run at 10 a.m. For those who prefer walking, there's also a 2K or 4K walk at 11:30 a.m. The starting line is at the Shoreview Community Center Pavilion and the run/walk travels along the trails of Snail Lake Regional Park.
Race-day registration fees are $25 for adults, and $20 per person for those under 12 years of age. Proceeds benefit both the Ramsey County K-9 Foundation, "Helping Paws," to train wheelchair-assist dogs and the Healthy Youth Foundation for Rotary youth scholarships.
