NEW BRIGHTON
City will flush hydrants in early October Starting Oct. 5, the city's water department will be flushing hydrants for a week to remove iron from the water system.
That could cause some residents to notice that their water looks rusty and their laundry is stained.
The reddish-brown water isn't harmful, and the discolored water should clear up in a day. As far as laundry is concerned, the city suggests holding off on it if the water is discolored.
City officials will start flushing hydrants north of I-694 and proceed north to County Road H. The flushing will continue with the southern half of New Brighton, beginning at 7th Street and working south to I-694.
