Citywide garage sale set for May 17-19The registration deadline for Andover's third citywide garage sale is May 11.

The sale, planned for Thursday, Friday and Saturday, May 17-19, will run from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. each day.

Zoomobile to stop at Northtown libraryA naturalist from the Minnesota Zoo will visit the Northtown Library in Blaine on Saturday, bringing along some live animals.

The program will run from 10:30-11:15 a.m. in the library's meeting room. It's free and open to everyone, but seating is limited; tickets will be available 15 minutes before the event in the Children's Room.

Bauer Memorial race set for SaturdayRegistration is continuing for Saturday's Randy Bauer Memorial 5K Run/Walk, held in memory of a Crossroads Alternative High School science teacher who died of cancer in 2007.

Proceeds will go to the American Cancer Society to fund cancer research and provide science-related experiences for students at Crossroads.

The run will follow a loop from the school and through Coon Rapids Regional Dam Park. Registration is $25 until Thursday and $30 on race day. Participation fee is $15 for current and former Crossroads students. For more information or to register, visit www.randybauer5k.org.

Cleanup day, tree sale, pet clinic on SaturdayResidents will have a threefold opportunity on Saturday: to recycle a wide range of items, get their dogs vaccinated and licensed, or buy trees.

Dayton's 27th annual cleanup day will take place from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. at the garage behind City Hall. The pet vaccinations will be given in the Police Department garage. Vaccinations will be offered at a reduced rate and licenses at half-price.

Tree planting and recycling events setSaturday is Arbor Day, and the city will mark the occasion with a tree planting at 10 a.m. at Lions Park, 1204 157th Av. NE.

Rotary fundraiser to pay for scholarshipsThe Golden Valley Rotary is sponsoring a gala dinner featuring the Twin Cities Women's Choir at 6 p.m. Friday at the Golden Valley Golf and Country Club, 7001 Golden Valley Road.

Money raised will fund college scholarships for local high school students. The Golden Valley Rotary has awarded more than $60,000 in scholarships over the past five years.

The event will include dinner and silent and live auctions. The 150 singers in the Twin Cities Women's Choir perform pop standards, show tunes and other choral music.

Kid's Garage Sale set for SundayA Kid's Garage Sale is scheduled for noon-3 p.m. Sunday at Plymouth Creek Center, 14800 34th Av. in Plymouth. Admission is free, and the event will go on, rain or shine.

Kids age 6-13 may rent a table to sell at the garage sale. Cost is $13 for residents and $17 for non-residents.

Bike helmet sale starts ThursdayPlymouth's police and fire departments will begin their annual bike helmet sale from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Fire Station III, 3300 Dunkirk Lane N. in Plymouth.

The sales will occur twice a month, from 6-8 p.m. on the first and third Thursdays of each month through August, all at Fire Station III.

Helmets will be available in sizes from toddler to adult extra large for $10 or $12. Multi-sport helmets will cost $15.

The police and fire departments generally sell from 700 to 900 helmets each year.

Spanish Immersion marks 25 yearsSeveral events this week are celebrating the 25th anniversary of the Robbinsdale Spanish Immersion School.

On Thursday, alumni will be able to tour classrooms from 1:30-3:30 p.m. Then from 4-6 p.m. there will be an ice cream social. On Friday, a "Fiesta Fun Fair" will be held from 5:30-8:30 p.m. at the school.

On Saturday, the school will have a float in the Cinco de Mayo Parade in St. Paul.
