Modern-dance legend Paul Taylor's company will perform here in September to open the first full season of dance at Northrop Auditorium since the hall closed for a three-year, $88 million renovation.

Northrop's grand reopening in April featured a performance of the classic ballet "Giselle" by American Ballet Theatre, with a live orchestra in the pit. Critics praised the renovated hall as an excellent place to see large-scale dance.

The 2014-15 season unveiled Wednesday by Christine Tschida, director of Northrop, includes ballet and modern dance by nine troupes from around the world.

Paul Taylor Dance Company, last seen at Northrop in 2010, brings "Beloved Renegade" and "Piazzolla Caldera" (Sept. 27). The latter work will have live music by the Pablo Ziegler Quintet. Tschida praised the choreographer's spirit of reinvention. "Taylor is 84 years old," she said, "and he's looking for new challenges. You gotta love that."

Twin Cities talent is showcased in six world premieres by winners of McKnight Dancer Fellowships (Oct. 4-5).

Belgian choreographer Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker's troupe Rosas will be in the Twin Cities for three nights in a co-presentation with Walker Art Center. The troupe will give the Midwest premiere of a 1983 dance-theater piece, "Rosas danst Rosas," and will perform at the Walker (Oct. 15-17).

Making its Minneapolis debut, Les Ballets Jazz de Montréal will showcase three works (Oct. 24). The story ballet "Turandot" will be staged by Hong Kong Ballet (Nov. 6-7).

A sampling of works by George Balanchine will be featured (and accompanied by a live orchestra) when Suzanne Farrell Ballet performs "Swan Lake (First Act)" and "Allegro Brillante" (Dec. 4). Balanchine created more than two dozen roles for Farrell in her long career as a dancer with New York City Ballet. The program also includes Jerome Robbins' "The Concert."

Dance Theatre of Harlem will present an eclectic program of ballet (Feb. 17), and France's Compagnie Käfig will bring 11 male Brazilian dancers for a show that combines hip-hop with samba, acrobatics, bossa nova and capoeira (March 10).

Two dozen University of Minnesota dance students will join Martha Graham Dance Company on the first of two nights at Northrop. The troupe's second-night program will include "Errand into the Maze," "Diversion of Angels" and "Rite of Spring." (April 10-11).

Russia's Eifman Ballet will close the season with choreographer Boris Eifman's evening-length theatrical ballet "Rodin" (April 28-29, 2015).
