Although her dispute with a roofer this spring didn't cost her any money, Marie Porter of Minneapolis filed a Better Business Bureau complaint. Porter said the roofer berated her after she wouldn't change the contract.

Though she got her deposit back, Porter wanted others to know about her experience. Yet the company's BBB listing showed no complaints.

Minnesota BBB spokesman Dan Hendrickson said his organization logs all complaints, but a company's public profile generally lists only those in which the customer is asking for a refund or other action.

Because of Porter's concern, however, the BBB reopened the complaint and asked the company for a response, which will eventually show up on the company's record, he said.
