Obama releases $502.2 million to Minnesota
The Obama administration Tuesday released $28 billion in stimulus funds that will be used on the nation's transportation infrastructure, with $502.2 million of that coming to Minnesota.
Information posted by the White House on its website, www.recovery.gov, doesn't specify particular road and bridge projects that will be financed. States must use the funding for projects within 120 days or risk losing it.
The bulk of the funds can be spent anywhere in Minnesota. About $134 million is targeted for projects in urban and suburban areas; more than $15 million is targeted for rural areas.
Elsewhere in the Upper Midwest, $529 million is earmarked for Wisconsin, $358 million for Iowa, $183 million for South Dakota and $170 million for North Dakota. STAFF AND WIRE REPORTS
