Rickman, Dr. William E. "Bill" age 85 of Edina, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. Preceded in death by his loving parents Louis and Laura, and sister Marilyn. Bill attended Edison grade school in Rochester, Minnesota and graduated from Rochester High School in 1952. He attended Stanford University and the University of Minnesota Medical School and achieved his medical degree in 1959, following his father's footsteps into medicine. Bill completed his residency at the Mayo Clinic and joined an ophthalmology practice in Minneapolis where he specialized in cataract surgery and became highly respected among colleagues and patients for his surgical skills and kind bedside manner. A man of many interests, he restored people's sight by day and used his bright mind and perseverance to pursue numerous hobbies and activities: Bill loved racing sailboats on Lake Pepin and Lake Minnetonka, building and flying RC airplanes, collecting and tinkering with radios often tuned to big band jazz, flying kites on beach vacations with his many grandchildren and spending time on projects at the family cabin in Deerwood. He is survived by his loving wife of sixty-one years, Joan, and his three sons Tom (Mary Kay), Steve (Lisa), and Mike (Lisa) and daughter Lynda Barger (Steve). Bill enjoyed reading to and spending time with his grandchildren Ali, Sarah (Mike), Anna, Katie, Maria, Joe, Jack, Adam and Peter, and great grandchildren Christopher and John. He is also survived by his brother Jack (Peggy) and many other relatives and friends. A family funeral was held. Memorial service TBD.
