Hoover, Gary D. age 89 of Richfield, MN, Born Febru- ary 25, 1934, in Minneapolis died peacefully on March 3, 2023. The son of Henry Sylvan and Ardis Florence (Dahlin) Hoover, Gary graduated from Roose- velt High School in 1951 and from the University of Minnesota in 1956 (B.A. ROTC). While there he met the girl of his dreams, Mary Ellyn McGowan. They were married (6-23-56) and then moved to El Paso, TX, where he served at Ft. Bliss as a U.S. Army Officer. Returning to Minnesota, he joined Kraft Foods Inc. where he was employed as a sales manager and senior Account Executive for 30 years. They were blessed with a daughter and two sons. Gary retired early to provide care for his wife in her battle with Multiple Sclerosis. After his wife's death (1-5-04), Gary met Janis Tracy at their high school reunion. They were married in Mexico (3-4-09). They loved and cared for each other until her death (3-17-14). Gary then met his loving partner Peggy Murphy McGrath at Village Shores senior apartments where life was a whirlwind of activity and romance! Gary was a wonderful, caring person to his 'Irish loves', family, and friends. He was devoted to his beautiful and talented granddaughters and great Grandchildren. In addition to being survived by his partner Peggy, he is survived by his children MaryBeth Garrigan, Michael (Millie) Hoover, and Joe (Ghislaine) Hoover; grandchildren Natalie, Rebecca, Michele, Jenna, Rowan, and Briana; great-grandchildren Henry, William, Vivian, and Mason. Preceded in death by wives Mary Ellyn and Janice; sister Leatrice (Hoover) Nielsen; brother- in-law Wally Nielsen; sister-in-law Sharon (McGowan) Olson; brother- in-law Pat McGowan. Visitation will be held Wednesday, March 8, from 5 to 8 pm, at Gill Brothers Funeral Home in Minneapolis, 612-861-6088. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, March 9, at 11 am at the Assumption Catholic Church in Richfield with a visitation 1 hr prior to service. The Rite of Committal will follow at Assumption Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the National Eagle Center (nationaleaglecenter.org/donate) would be appreciated.
