Our dearly loved Gary Douglas Sorenson, age 77, went into the arms of his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, January 30, 2024. Gary was born in Redwood Falls, MN on January 10, 1947 and was the son of Doug and Eloise Sorenson. Gary's family moved to Owatonna, MN where he graduated from Owatonna High School. While in high school, Gary was an accomplished guitar player, and played guitar in many musical combos. Gary is best known as the lead guitar player with the group Little Caesar and the Conspirators. After graduation, Gary joined the US Air Force where he was trained in the field of electronics and worked on radar systems aboard F4 fighter jets at Edwards Air Force Base in California. After serving his country, Gary returned to Bloomington, MN and started a more than 40-year career with control data (Seagate technologies) as an electrical, engineer. During Gary's tenure at Seagate Technologies, he and his colleagues developed and patented much of the technology used in today's hard disk drives. Gary's coworkers would sometimes refer to him as "the source" because of his ability to think of creative solutions. In 1972, Gary married Rhonda (Zeigler) and they moved to Richfield, MN and raised three loving sons, Scott, Chad, and Bjorn. For the past 52 years, Gary and Rhonda shared an amazing love together. They enjoyed road trips and traveled all over the United States. Their favorite trip was their annual trip to the north shore. Gary loved making projects with his sons and grandchildren. Gary's first granddaughter referred to him as "Gump", a name he adored and wore with honor the rest of his days. He loved the name so much that he had personalized license plates on his vehicle that just said "GUMPTRK". Gary is survived by his wife Rhonda (Zeigler) and his sons Scott Sorenson (Kathy) of Lakeville, MN, and Bjorn Sorenson (Miranda) of Pickens, SC and four wonderful grandchildren, Shelby, Derek, Taylor and Thomas. He was preceded in death by his parents, Doug and Eloise Sorenson and his son, Chad Sorenson.
