He taught for a few years in Palatine, Illinois before settling in Anoka, where he taught Biology at Anoka Senior High School for 31 years. Once a teacher, always a teacher, he enjoyed sharing "teachable moments" with those around him, especially his grandkids. He was a nature lover, environmentalist, and conservationist. He always reminded others to "look up" so as not to miss the beauty of nature. Gary was preceded in death by parents Helmer and Helen Johnson, brother-in-law Ron King. Survived by wife Sandra, son Brian (Haydn), daughter Stephanie (David) Mantini, grandchildren Michael and Andrew Mantini, sisters Lynn King and Jean (Dave Crain) Saccoman, nieces and nephews. A private celebration of life will be held at a later time.
