Cherryhomes, George Christopher (Chris) aged 75, of Minneapolis passed away May 24, 2024. He is survived by son, Judd Anderson; daughter-in-law, Judith (Esme) Anderson; and granddaughter, Grace Anderson; as well as four brothers and their wives: Dan (Pat Collins), Ben (Barb Wieners), Paul (Carol Cherryhomes) and Bob (Marla Melia); nephews, nieces, and their children. Born to missionary parents in the Philippines, Chris lived in Thailand, California, and Texas before coming to Minneapolis in 1965. Chris met his first wife, Debra, while working at Eitel Hospital. Their son Judd was born in 1975, and although the marriage did not last, Judd remained part of Chris's life. In 1978, Chris married Charyl Zimmerman. In 1994, they moved to a home in south Minneapolis that they shared until Charyl passed away. Chris loved sports, running hurdles and relays in high school, and throughout his life he enjoyed exchanging opinions on major league sports with his siblings. Chris also loved music and was deeply influenced by classical piano works. He took lessons in his youth and continued playing through his life. He worked 30 years for Hennepin County, retiring in 2015. Both Chris and Charyl enjoyed traveling, but their dreams of travel were cut short when Charyl became ill and passed away in 2019. Within short months, Chris learned he had a blood clotting disorder. Facing frequent hospitalizations, Chris decided on assisted living close to his medical treatment. At the Pillars of Prospect Park, he found a welcoming community in which he could stay until his passing. A memorial service will be held for family, neighbors, and friends on Sunday June 30th, at 1:00 pm in the fellowship hall at Saint John's Lutheran Church, 4842 Nicollet Avenue South in Minneapolis. In lieu of flowers, the family asks you to please contribute to any favorite charity of yours to remember Chris.
