Thorp, James Conrad On Thursday June 6, 2024, James Conrad Thorp, passed away peacefully with his two children by his side at the age of 90. Born in Minneapolis on May 3, 1934, to Nora A. (Anderson) Thorp and Ralph E. Thorp Sr. Jim was a graduate of Washburn High School, received his undergraduate degree from the University of Minnesota, majoring in Engineering, where he was a member of the Beta Theta Pi Fraternity. Jim received his MBA from the University of St. Thomas. Following his undergraduate graduation Jim enlisted in the Air Force and was stationed in Iceland and Colorado Springs. Jim and Ruth Ann were married in 1962 and shared 47 wonderful years together. Jim began his long business career at IBM and flourished in computer software sales. Jim was an avid sportsman and outdoorsman. Hockey, hunting, fishing, skiing and golf. Jim was very proud of his Norwegian heritage. Jim is survived by his daughter Heidi (Thorp) Barcelow and son-in-law Michael Barcelow of Edina; son Jeff Thorp and daughter-in-law Mary Pat (Tracy) Thorp of Edina; and his two loving granddaughters Grace Ann Barcelow and Alayna Thorp. Preceded in death by his loving wife Ruth Ann, his brother Ralph E. Thorp and sister-in-law Nancy Thorp. Survived by his brother Gary Thorp (Patti), nieces and nephews David (Cheryl) Thorp, Steven (Terry) Thorp, Scott (Kelly) Thorp, and Dana (Kevin) Giertsen. Service will be Friday, June 14, 2024, at Lakewood Cemetery Chapel, 3600 Hennepin Ave at 10 am, Visitation starting at 9:30, followed by the interment.
