Robinson, Allan Raymond age 78, of Minneapolis, Minnesota passed away on Tuesday, January 23, 2024. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 24 years, Susanne Engler Robinson; daughter Amy Jenkins (Jay); grandsons, Eric Thoemke (Leigha) and Caleb Jenkins; great-granddaughter Collins Thoemke; sister Cathy Buesgens (Greg); brothers Michael and Patrick (Craig); brother-in-law Robert Engler Jr. (Karen); nieces, nephews and their families. Allan had over 50 years' experience as a clinical and research perfusionist that included clinical operation of the Heart & Lung By-pass machine and adjunct devices. He assisted in the development and operation of the heart- lung machine using the first application of a centrifugal blood pump, a design adapted for use as a Ventricular Assist Device (VAD). He invented and patented several medical devices. Allan had a brilliant mind that was so helpful in understanding the philosophical interactions between the human body and cardiopulmonary bypass and mechanical bypass and mechanical circulatory support. He was known for his ability to make medical devices from garage sale treasures. The medical profession will miss his leadership and insight. As Allan worked to extend and improve human life, he loved and respected nature and its creatures. His interests included wildlife preservation and animal rescue programs. A Celebration of his Life will be held on Wednesday, June 19, 2024, 1:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. with sharing of memories at 2:30 p.m. at the Columbia Manor, 3300 Central Avenue N.E., Minneapolis, MN 55418.
