Peter Weiss of Minneapolis, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 10th, 2023, from natural causes. He was 89 years old. Peter was born February 9, 1934, in Madison WI. to R. Glen Weiss and Kathryn Franey. Peter's family moved frequently around Wisconsin and finally settling back in Madison, where Peter graduated from Madison West High School in 1952. Peter went on to the University of Wisconsin, but took a break to enlist in the U.S. Army, where he served as a Combat Engineer in a base in Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. After the Army, Peter returned to UW Madison, graduating with a bachelor's degree in Psychology and a J.D. from UW Law School. Peter moved to Minneapolis to join the law firm of Wright, West, Diessner and Arneson, where later he became a partner. Early in his career, Peter and a group of young local attorneys founded the Legal Advice Clinics, (now Volunteer Lawyers Network). In addition to his legal practice, Peter also taught Business Law at the University of MN business school for 20 years and the College of St. Thomas for three years. After a period of personal and professional setbacks, he finished his legal career as a mediator and settlement conference referee for Hennepin County. Peter's athletic interests were vast, but above his drive for marathons, cross country and alpine skiing, he had a passion for fishing and tennis. He frequently returned to Madison to visit family and friends, and to enjoy the UW Badger Football Homecoming game with his fellow Sigma Chi alum. Peter is survived by his children, Stephen and Christopher (Jennifer Jobe); sisters Caroline Dawson (Jim) and Martha Kneuer; nephew Matthew Roberts, nieces Katheryn Weiss, (Bill Herrin), Lisa Kenney (Sean), Katherine Bowers (Blake) and Tania Kneuer (Scott Weber). Peter was proceeded in death by his parents, Glen and Kathryn Weiss, brother Stephen and sisters Anne and Christine. In Peter's memory, please consider a donation to Volunteer Lawyers Network.
