Nolting, Lorraine Marie (Ritten) passed away peacefully after a long fulfilling life on June 16, 2024, in Edina, MN. She was born the youngest of eight children, in Northeast Minneapolis to Frank and Anna (Mauer) Ritten. They predeceased her, as have her seven siblings. Lorraine grew up a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church in Northeast Minneapolis. She graduated from Edison High School and went to work at Honeywell. There she met Robert Nolting, a young engineer recently back from the war in Europe. They married September 16, 1948 and built their family home in Edina, MN shortly after. Robert passed away December 3, 1985. Surviving are Lorraine's children, Frederick Nolting (Nory), Rochester, MN and Carol Deming (Derrell), St. Louis Park, MN. Also surviving are her grandchildren, Erick Nolting (Donnell), Glenwood, MN; Andrew Nolting (Jennie), West Palm Beach, Florida; Gregory Deming (Nancy), Chicago, IL and Timothy Deming (Kathryn), Golden Valley, MN. Her great-grandchildren are Ayla Nolting, Mason Deming, Zander Deming, Syndey Deming and Evan Deming. Many nieces and nephews fondly called her their Aunt Lorraine. She was devoted to her family and was always interested in knowing what was going on in the lives of her children, grandchildren and extended family. If there was a game of cards to be played, Lorraine was first at the table, shuffling. She was active in card clubs nearly all her adult life. For many years she worked as a lunch lady and member of the 'Highland Girls' at Highland Elementary School in Edina, serving a big smile along with the lunch tray. She was always comfortable baking in her kitchen, keeping 25-lb bags of flour and sugar on hand to make cookies for church functions and her specialty, German Pfeffernuss cookies at Christmas. Her canned peaches and pears were a coveted gift. She was a true homemaker in every sense, and the Nolting house was always a place of games and laughter when there was a family event. Lorraine was a long-time member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church and the Church of St. Patrick, both in Edina. She was a woman of deep faith and her generous spirit touched everyone she knew. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place July 11 at the Church of St. Patrick in Edina at 11 AM with visitation one hour prior and luncheon to follow. She will be laid to rest next to her husband at Fort Snelling National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor Lorraine's memory are encouraged to make a donation to St. Joseph Home for Children or Little Sisters of the Poor.
