Szarke, Connie Claire (nee Peterson) Age 80, of Mound, passed away on June 20, 2024 from dementia. Preceded in death by parents, one sister, and ex-husband. Connie taught French at Chaska High School for over 30 years. In retirement she wrote and published award-winning novels, short stories, and poems with themes of nature and life in Minnesota. Connie was an accomplished pianist, expertly playing songs from The Great American Songbook as well as classical and jazz pieces. An avid downhill skier, Connie enjoyed the mountains out West well into her 70s. She was a seasoned traveler, and especially loved France and French culture. She adored animals and was devoted to her Shelties. Most of all, Connie loved Lake Minnetonka where she lived for over 50 years - painting, sculpting, fishing, sailing, boating, writing, and playing piano. Connie is survived by her son Joshua, her daughter-in-law and two grandsons, as well as her niece and nephew and their families. An open house will be held 10-12 on Monday, July 8 at Huber Funeral Home in Mound, MN. A service and celebration of her life will take place at 12pm.
