Stewart Collins Loper, age 76 of Eden Prairie, passed away Wednesday, June 26, 2024 after a prolonged and difficult illness. He is survived by his loving wife, Nancy, devoted son, Thomas, sister, Barbara Seaberg (John), niece Jessica Seidlitz (Mike), nephew Marc Seaberg (Meredith), two grand nieces and three grand nephews. Preceded in death by his parents, MarJorie Collins and John Yerxa Loper. Stewart was raised in Morningside, graduated from Edina Morningside High School in 1966 and Macalester College in 1970. He attended William Mitchell College of Law while simultaneously working as a law clerk in St. Paul, and received his Juris Doctor in 1974. Stewart practiced law for 50 years. He truly enjoyed his chosen profession and maintained many long and satisfying friendships with fellow attorneys. He was a past president of the William Mitchell College of Law Alumni Association and a faithful supporter of the Mitchell Hamline School of Law. Despite living on the opposite side of the river and not being of Irish heritage, he was an enthusiastic member of the St. Paul St. Patrick's Association for 40 years, serving in various positions including, for many years, it's treasurer. Stewart was a member of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church and Meetinghouse Church (formerly Colonial Church of Edina). When time permitted, he enjoyed reading, working in his woodshop, and sailing and water skiing with Thomas at the family cabin. Stewart had a great sense of humor often followed by an amusing quote or comment. He also had a great love for his family and his LORD. His faith was the bedrock of his life. The men in his Bible study groups were influential in strengthening his relationship with the LORD and their friendships were invaluable, both personally and spiritually. The family is grateful for the care of Dr. Mehrdad Hefazi Torghabeh and the exceptional medical providers at the Mayo Clinic, as well as the nursing staff at Rochester Methodist Hospital for their loving care of Stewart during his last days. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 9th from 5-8 PM at Meetinghouse Church, 6200 Colonial Way, Edina, MN 55435, and a Memorial Service on Wednesday, July 10th at 2PM at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, 4439 West 50th Street, Edina, MN 55424. Private interment. ln lieu of, and if desired, memorials may be directed to Mitchell Hamline School of Law, Samaritan's Purse, or The Mayo Clinic.
