Swatez, Helen Marcus Age 101, was born March 2, 1923 in Dortmund, Germany and passed away on June 29, 2024 in St Louis Park, MN. She was only 6 months old when she came to the United States with her parents and older brother through Ellis Island. She grew up on the northside of Minneapolis where she met her future husband, Manuel "Manny" Swatez. In the junior high class play they were cast as husband and wife. They married in 1943 and started their family in 1946. Helen was a loving & devoted wife to Manny for 65 years and an adoring mother to Ian & Marilyn. Her great sense of humor and Manny's jokes kept her laughing throughout their marriage. After Manny retired they traveled all over the world from which she had many treasured memories. She always had a way of making each and every person she encountered feel special. She will be remembered for her kind heartedness and good nature. Throughout her life, Helen was independent, strong and healthy. Her warm smile and vibrant personality made it easy for her to make new friends at Knollwood Place where she decided to move to at the age of 95; she truly enjoyed the last years of her life. Our sincerest gratitude and appreciation to all the loving caregivers that have been with Helen and our family these past few years. Helen is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Manuel Swatez; son, Dr. Ian Swatez; son-in-law, David Fleischman; parents, Jack & Della Marcus; mother & father-in-law, Isadore & Monya Swatez; brother and sister-in-law, Peter & Lois Marcus; sisters & brothers-in-law, Jean & Nate Rosenzweig & Celia & Amos Heilicher; many other relatives and dear friends.
