Iverson Curtis Iverson, 70, of New Ulm, died Saturday, January 15, 2005 at the New Ulm Medical Center. Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, January 19 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in New Ulm with Rev. Todd Nelsen officiating. Burial will be in the New Ulm City Cemetery. Visitation will be 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at Schmucker Funeral Service in New Ulm and one hour prior to service at the church. Curtis Myloe Iverson, the son of Lloyd and Hazel (Hallberg) Iverson was born September 29, 1934 in Roseau, Minnesota. He graduated from Mankato West High School in 1952. He studied music education, theory and composition as an undergraduate at the University of Minnesota, and did his graduate studies at Mankato State University and the University of Wisconsin, Madison. Curt was united in marriage to Margaret (Marge) Kurth on August 18, 1956 in Hutchinson. They moved to New Ulm in 1959 where Curt was band director for the New Ulm Junior High School. In 1968, Curt became Senior High band director until his retirement in 1987. He continued teaching private lessons in his home for another 15 years. In 1985, Curt was a founding member of the Original German Band. Over the years, he also performed with the New Ulm Municipal Band, the Monument Brass, and in Tubamania at Heritagefest. Curt was a member of the National Education Association, Minnesota Education Association, Music Educators National Conference, National Musicians Union, and American Composers Forum. Curt was a charter member of the Minnesota Music Hall of Fame and the New Ulm Heritage Preservation Commission. He also served on the Hermann Monument Commission and the Human Rights Commission. Survivors include daughters, Mayra Olson and her husband Mike of Burnsville, Cara Iverson of Burnsville; two grandsons, Colin Roegiers of Minneapolis, Nate Roegiers of Burnsville; two step granddaughters, Cherise Olson of Mounds View, Jennifer Olson of New Brighton; mother, Hazel Iverson of New Ulm; and sister Shirley Iverson of New Ulm. Curt was preceded in death by his father and his wife.
