Keinath Gerald E. Keinath, age 79, of Edina, died peacefully July 30, 2003 after a 4-year battle with cancer. He was preceded in death by his son, Michael. Survived by wife, Gerda; daughters, Jacqueline (Robin) Smith of Eden Prairie, Jennifer (Patrick) Bouthilet of Stillwater; grandchildren, Nick, Jessica, Natalie, Tim and Amy. Gerald was born in Grand Rapids, MI, May 1, 1924. He volunteered for the Army at age 18 and served during WW II. After the war, he earned a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Northwestern University. He went on to work at Battelle Research Institute and North Star Research. In 1972, he founded Novus Inc., a pioneer in windshield repair technology. By the time he retired in 1993, Novus had grown into a company with 750 U.S. franchises and 2500 franchises throughout 52 countries. Gerald was a long-time member of the Minnesota Entrepreneurs Inc. and was a life member of the Republican National Committee. He will be deeply missed by his family and many friends. Heartfelt thanks to the wonderful, caring staff at Hillcrest Care Center in Wayzata. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to the American Cancer Society. Private interment, Fort Snelling Cemetery.
