Lampe, Mary Bermingham 1922 - 2006 Passed away peacefully on June 15, 2006. Mary came to MN from Long Island, NY to attend the U of M. She graduated with a BS in 1944 and a MA from Columbia University in 1951. She had a distinguished career at the U of M as an Associate Professor in the College of Education from 1944 to her retirement in 1996. Mary founded the first golf team for women students at the U of M and for many years taught swimming lessons for young children. Mary was an advocate and champion of elementary school physical education and for early childhood education. She served on many regional and national educational organizations, and received numerous professional honors and awards for her outstanding service and contributions to girl's and women's sports. Mary served as President of the MN Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance and President of the American Lung Association of MN. She was a source of inspiration and encouragement for many in the area of elementary physical education and much loved by her students. Mary is survived by daughters, Sally Gould (John) of Seattle, WA and Anne Lampe (Timothy O'Brien) of St. Paul; two granddaughters, Madeline Gould and Brenna O'Brien; brother, John Bermingham; and sister, Katherine Clark. Preceded in death by her loving husband of over 50 years, Ralph Lampe. Mary will be remembered for her generosity, sense of style and grace, and ability to laugh at herself. She will be greatly missed and her loving spirit will remain with us forever. Visitation from 4 to 8 PM on Monday, June 19 at O'HALLORAN AND MURPHY FUNERAL HOME, 575 Snelling Ave. S., St. Paul, 651-698-0796. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 AM on Tuesday, June 20, 2006 at HOLY SPIRIT CATHOLIC CHURCH, 512 Albert St. S., St. Paul.
