A book by a prize-winning Twin Cities writer has been named the seventh title to be chosen for the statewide One Book/ One Minnesota book club.

Brian Farrey's "The Secret of Dreadwillow Carse," published by Algonquin Books of Chapel Hill, won the inaugural Minnesota Book Award for middle-grade fiction in 2016. It's the story of a peasant girl who, with help from a young princess, sets out to solve the mystery behind the disappearance of her father. It garnered a starred review in the trade journal Kirkus.

The One Book / One Minnesota club began in April 2020 as a way to unite the state during the pandemic lockdown. Through May 15, Minnesotans will have access to author videos, reading guides, and virtual book club discussions on the website of the Friends of the St. Paul Public Library.

They can download the e-book and audiobook for free at Ebooks Minnesota. The book is also available at public libraries or can be purchased at local independent bookstores.

All Minnesotans also are invited to participate in a virtual statewide discussion with Farrey at 1 p.m. on May 11. Registration is required.

Previous books discussed in the series include "Because of Winn-Dixie" by Kate DiCamillo; "A Good Time for the Truth," edited by Sun Yung Shin; "A Plague of Doves" by Louise Erdrich, and "Murder on the Red River" by Marcie Rendon.
