A woman was found dead in a home that caught fire in Farmington, officials said Wednesday.

Firefighters arrived about 10:50 p.m. Monday to the 5300 block of W. Upper 182nd Street and found flames in the basement, said Fire Chief Matt Price.

While attacking the blaze, firefighters found a body inside. A dog also was dead in the residence, Price said.

Officials have yet to give a preliminary indication of how the fire started.

Family identified the woman as 22-year-old Nayely Torres Ortega.

“My sister Nayely and our dog were both home, and we are deeply saddened to inform everyone that Nayely and our dog have passed away,” Damian Torres Ortega posted on an online fundraising campaign that is collecting money to help with expenses related to the fire. “There was a lot of damage done to the house, and we have lost a lot of our belongings.”
