A teenage girl died and three others were wounded after a shooting Wednesday night on St. Paul's East Side.

The Ramsey County Medical Examiner identified Monica Holley, a 14-year-old from St. Paul, as the deceased teen. Two other girls at the scene were taken to Regions Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, and St. Paul police Sgt. Mike Ernster said a 19-year-old woman checked herself into Regions hours later with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to her leg.

The condition of the teens and the 19-year-old are unclear, but Ernster said witnesses should contact police.

"We believe there's other people that saw this, and we'd like to hear from them," he said.

An officer on patrol near Hazelwood Street and E. Maryland Avenue heard gunshots about 7:45 p.m. Several people called 911 to report gunfire and the calls led officers to the 1200 block of Hazelwood where police found the three victims, said Ernster.

Paramedics took all three teenagers to Regions. Holley died after arriving at the hospital, marking the 27th homicide this year. That matches the number of murders in St. Paul around this time last year, according to a Star Tribune database.

As many as 30 shots were fired, according to evidence markers placed at the scene.

Investigators are working to determine what led to the shooting and who is responsible, Ernster said.

Police are looking for any surveillance video that could help determine what happened, he added.
