An 86-year-old man was killed in a multi-vehicle crash Thursday afternoon at the intersection of Hwy. 55 and Xenium Lane/Northwest Boulevard, Plymouth police said Friday.

The man from Golden Valley, whose name has not been released, was a passenger in a vehicle making a left turn from westbound Hwy. 55 onto Xenium Lane when it collided with an eastbound vehicle, police said.

A 15-year-old girl also riding in the car making the left turn was seriously hurt and was in "grave" condition at North Memorial Medical Center in Robbinsdale, police said Friday.

The drivers of both vehicles were treated for noncritical injuries.

After the collisions, the vehicle making the turn struck two other vehicles that were stopped at the intersection. That intersection is controlled by four-way stoplights. Police Capt. Mike Reed did not have any information about what caused the crash, which remains under investigation.

Surrounding roads in the area of the crash were closed for about four hours. The State Patrol was asked to help with crash reconstruction.
