State Patrol identifies man fatally hit by vehicle while walking on highway

The crash occurred in northwestern Minnesota on Hwy. 59, authorities said.

A man walking on a northwestern Minnesota highway Friday morning was hit by a pickup truck and killed, officials said.

The State Patrol said the victim was Lee Edmond Defoe, 40, of Waubun, Minn. He was walking south on the highway when the pickup hit him from behind.

The crash occurred about 6:25 a.m. south of Mahnomen on Hwy. 59, authorities said.

Driving the pickup was Zachary John Mehr, 39, of St. Cloud. The State Patrol said Mehr was not injured.
