Author Eelco J. Rohling, professor of ocean and climate change at Australian National University, writes in his book "The Oceans: a deep history" --

"We are pushing (the climate) faster than it has ever been pushed, with the only possible exception the end-Permian event of 2532 million years ago which gave us the Earth's worst mass extinction."
